FSD v14 Just Got ACE — Ashok Says v15 Is the Real Leap

Hours after FSD v14.3.9’s Automatic Collision Evasion rollout chatter, Tesla AI lead Ashok Elluswamy previewed v15: earlier hazard prediction, faster reactions, and better collision avoidance. Here’s the light, hopeful consumer take.

This morning’s story was the now: FSD Supervised v14.3.9 rolling out with Automatic Collision Evasion — the “panic button that presses itself” while you’re still driving manually.

This afternoon’s story is the next: Tesla AI lead Ashok Elluswamy just previewed FSD v15 as the bigger upgrade sitting behind that warm-up.

Replying on X to a driver whose Tesla had swerved clear of another car pulling out of a parking lot, Ashok wrote that he was glad they were safe — and that “even earlier prediction of hazards, even faster reaction time and overall significantly better safety and collision avoidance” are coming “as part of the next big upgrade (v15).”

That’s not a release-notes dump. It’s a three-bullet teaser from the person who builds the stack. And for consumers, it’s the fun framing: today’s update was the appetizer; v15 is the entrée.

What we actually know (and what we don’t)

Known:

  • Elluswamy’s Sept 11 post names v15 as the next major upgrade and points at three themes: earlier hazard prediction, faster reaction, better safety / collision avoidance.
  • Reporting (including Teslarati) describes v15 internally as a larger architectural step — bigger neural network, tighter coupling between prediction and control — not just another decimal bump.
  • Early v15 builds are reportedly already in some Robotaxi ops while customer cars keep getting v14.x goodies (like ACE).

Not known (yet):

  • A public consumer ship date for v15
  • Official release notes, feature list, or hardware requirements
  • Independent numbers proving the “significantly better” claim ahead of time

So treat this like a movie trailer, not the credits. Exciting. Incomplete. Definitely worth watching.

How this sits next to this morning’s ACE news

ACE on v14.3.9 is about the car jumping into FSD when you’re in manual and things look wrong — inattention, accidental cancel, or (in fuller notes) a frontal crunch braking alone may not fix.

v15, per Ashok, is about the stack getting smarter earlier — spotting hazards sooner and reacting faster so you need fewer last-second heroics in the first place.

Same family of goals. Different chapter. One’s shipping now; one’s the next big leap Tesla wants you excited about.

The lighthearted scorecard

When v15 finally lands, here’s the snack-size checklist (no doom required):

  • Does it feel like it sees trouble sooner?
  • Are interventions smoother / rarer in normal driving?
  • Does parking-lot chaos still feel like a boss fight?
  • Does “Supervised” still mean eyes up? (Spoiler: yes.)

Until then, enjoy the v14.3.9 toys if your car gets them, keep both hands ready, and file Ashok’s tweet under coming attractions.

Why “prediction” is the fun word

Reaction time is the flashy metric — milliseconds, swerves, that “whoa” clip on social. Prediction is quieter and weirder: the model deciding before the hazard is fully in the frame that the parking-lot exit looks sketchy, or that the merge gap is about to vanish.

If v15 really moves the needle on earlier prediction, daily driving should feel less like a highlights reel of saves and more like… boring competence. And boring competence is the actual product people want from a Supervised stack.

Ashok didn’t promise a date. He promised a direction. For a software-defined car, that direction is the whole plot.

Midday poll

What would impress you most in FSD v15?

  • A) Earlier “I see that knucklehead pulling out” prediction
  • B) Faster reaction when something pops into frame
  • C) Fewer random slowdowns / smoother everyday driving
  • D) Just ship it — I’ll judge on a grocery run

Software cars are weird in the best way: the same metal gets a sequel without a trade-in. v14.3.9 is the episode airing now. v15 is the one Ashok just spoiled the trailer for.
